B7 has been in production since 2018 and is Norwood’s first independent release on her own record label Brand Nu, Inc. in partnership with eOne.12 During an interview with the HuffPost’ Taryn Finley, Norwood said that despite feeling pressure she was letting her “authentic experiences inform her music”. Despite feeling vulnerable and in relation to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Norwood said “It all aligned… I didn’t plan it like this, but it just happened to fall in the same space so I’m happy about that.”1 Finely asked Norwood to elaborate on why the time was right for new music, Norwood said “Well, I felt like I’m in a great place in my music. I feel very strong about my music, confident about where I am with it. I believe in it, and I just felt like this was the time”.1 Describing the album as authentic and her most personal to date, Norwood said that fans could expect her “entire heart” on the album, with themes of “love and heartache and coming into [her] own and finding [her] own self love”.[1

Speaking about the process of making the album, Norwood was clear about the dedication she put into the project, “I’ve dedicated the last couple of years of my life to new music, my new project. It’s taken me a while, but I’m so happy about the focus and work ethic I’ve put into this project.”1 This concept was expanded upon during Norwood’s interview with Apple Music, where she stated: “I felt like I wanted to just be as honest as possible with this new project. I wanted to approach this project like if this was my last chance, if this was my last shot at creating music, what would this project be about? What would it sound like? Would I just bare it all? Would I tell my story as deep as I could tell it? And I wanted to, of course, stay true to R&B but at the same time go outside of the box.”3 Similarly, when talking to Entertainment Weekly, Norwood said that she treated the album like it was her last. "I went into this album thinking, ‘If this were my last project, if this were the last time I would ever sing…what would I do?’ I used that [mindset] as a way to give my all. You can hear my entire heart on this. It took a while because I didn’t want to rush.

Grammy-Award winning, multi-platinum selling R&B artist Brandy will release her long-awaited seventh solo studio album entitled B7 this Friday, July 31, on her own record label Brand Nu, Inc. in partnership with Canada’s eOne imprint (Hasbro).

Clocking in at just over 45-minutes in total duration, the 15-track album features the likes of Chance The Rapper, talented super-producer Hit-Boy, Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, her own teenage daughter Sy’rai, successful New Jersey R&B/hip-hop producer Darhyl “DJ” Camper, the versatile and in-demand Grammy-nominated producer Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman amongst others. This new album will be her first major release since her last studio album in October 2012’s Two Eleven album on Chameleon Entertainment and RCA Records.

Brandy dropped her well-received lead single “Baby Mama” featuring Chicago’s Chance The Rapper in early May. The film clip creatively directed by Derek Blanks and internationally renowned dance choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. (credits with Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Usher Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton) for the catchy three and a half minute offering filmed in LA just before COVID-19. Co-produced by Brandy herself and renowned anthem making producer Hit-Boy, the single has charted well and marks Brandy’s re-entry to the center stage that she has largely occupied since her classic break out, self-titled release in 1994 on Atlantic Records.

Brandy also includes the number one charting collaborative track with Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar “Love Again” that was originally released in early July 2019 and also appeared on Ceaser’s internationally-charting second studio album Case Study 01, also released mid last year. Produced by both Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett, the track recorded back in 2018 would also go on to earn a Grammy nomination as well as also chart well internationally too.

It’s mindblowing to believe that it’s been 26 years since Brandy released her self-titled debut album. The entertainer has moved from television to film to topping the music charts effortlessly, and on Friday (July 31), she’s closing out the month by sharing her seventh studio album, B7. The celebrated “Vocal Bible” has endured much throughout her career, and now she’s back as Brandy claims she’s ready to show a side of herself that the world has yet to see now that she’s gone through a rebirth.

Fans have awaited a new project from the singer for eight long years, but it often takes time for artists to pull together an album they deem worthy of releasing. B7 will be put out on Brandy’s label Brand Nu/eOne and it’s reported by EurWeb that she’s both co-written and co-produced on every song. Brandy shared with the outlet that following both her personal and professional setbacks, she decided to go on a spiritual journey to realign with her higher self.

“I was feeling down and out, like I didn’t know my worth or my value and that is not a great place to be creatively or in life,” said Brandy. "And I had to muster up the strength to fight for myself. In moving forward I had to overcome a lot of things in my life that I had experienced and I had to rediscover who I am as a woman and who I am as an artist.”

On B7, fans will also see Brandy unite musically with her 18-year-old daughter, Sy’rai Iman Smith. “It’s unbelievable to see her grow into this beautiful flower. She’s always been attached and rooted in music, just being around it since she was a baby," the singer said. "But to see her grow into this singer and musician. To see her be so good, to see her get into the studio, layer her voice and stack her vocals. And to be so quick and also passionate. She really loves music, it’s just who she is. And to hear our voices blended together and for us to go back and forth. It’s inspiring to see her in her light.”
